All Reviews (Index)

As of late 2011 I decided that I'd keep detailed tasting notes on whiskies I open at home, for posterity and to practice the art of nosing, tasting and scoring (out of 100) which I have adopted in recent months.

I have outgrown my previous system of allocating a simple score out of 10 along with some rough notes on nose and taste - a 100 point system with breakdown into the "standard" categories of Nose, Taste, Finish and Balance lets me better rank and compare whiskies.

This particularly becomes important when one finally realises that whisky is more than just a middling interest and hobby, but a passion that is unlikely to fade but only grow stronger, most likely resulting in (hopefully) a lot of whiskies to experience.

My reviews are organised into categories starting with the most commonly available (in Australia) and then working towards the uncommon, top shelf or most special whiskies that I've been privileged to try thus far  [It's early days yet, as you can see. As time permits I will migrate my reviews and tasting notes here so check back soon! Thanks for your interest in my reviews and my blog - it will get better soon I promise].

For completed reviews where the final score is available (as opposed to "in progress" scores) they are provided in this summary view. Clicking into a whisky reveals its full tasting notes.

* A short note on blends - I score them in the same way that I score single malts. I would not expect them to score as highly as good single malts, generally speaking. Some reviewers (like YouTube sensation, Ralfy) like to give a "blend mark" but I prefer to stick to what I know.
